Hi, How would I go about animating lava in a lava lamp?? I'm new to 3DS I've been reading the manual and working with the examples but I not sure what is the best way to do this. Any sugestions? Andy

I'd go about it by creating three "blobby" shapes in the 2D Shaper and using them as fit shapes to generate several morph objects (adjusting the beziers in the Shaper between loftings). Then I'd morph between the blobs–probably using some touch of self-illuminated material on them. – Jack

I did a lava lamp once by making spheres and sqhishing them around a bit in the Editor, then squishing some more in the Keyframer. If you make each sphere with the same menu option (e.g. make them all G-Spheres with the same Values) you can even morph between them. MB

Do you want to donate the Lava Lamp model to this forum? Those of us still in the 70's would find great use for it…How about a bean bag chair? Velvet paintings? Bell bottoms for the Human-CAD set? I can see it now. MB's 70's IPAS set. Take any object and make it seventiesish. I can't wait! (g)

Sorry, but nothing could make me part with my prize collection of 70's texture maps. I have scans of all the Partridge Family albums, suitable for plopping onto a series of flat squares for a comprehensive 70's album collection. I also have Blood, Sweat 'n Tears, Sargeant Peppers, ABBA and Air Supply. Eat your heart out, Doug. MB

Hi, Are we making fun of the Lava Lamp?<G> I never bought one did you?<G> I thought it would be a great learning experance for me. I've exhaused the princlebales of gravity and magnetizum, and in searching my mind for anouther princable I guess I had a flash back.<G> Andy

Actually, I was serious about that part. I LOVE lava lamps.

Doug, My lava lamp model has long since bit the dust, but would you like me to send you the flic? If there is enough interest, maybe I could upload it onto Cserve. It's only about 20 frames long and it loops continuously for seamless all-night viewing pleasure. MB
