WB Wallpaper images

I just installed NickPrefs and it works great (it's on Fred Fish 780 if
you don't have it)! Anyway, I am using one of the cartoon character pics
also on that FF disk as my WB wallpaper, which is nice, but not really
what I want. I was wondering if anyone knows of, or is using, a better
image (either 8 or 16 color, I have not made the AGA plunge yet). I have
been playing around with images in general, but because of the palettes,
most are not acceptable.

I just uploaded two Bloom county pics that I use as Wallpaper. Both are 16
color, hi-res and interlaced. I found them on a local bbs and costomized
em with D-PaintIV.
The file is called BCWPaper.lha and will be found in the AMIGAARTS Forum.
Try em' out if you want…

At risk of being accused of blowing my own trumpet :-), you might want to
have a play with datatypes. GIF.datatype is available from download here,
and BMP.datatype is widely available, too.
Once these are installed, you can use any GIF or Windows Bitmap as a WB
respectively.

If my understanding is correct, datatypes are a feature of WB3.0 only.
Since CBM has decided that they do not (at this time) want to provide
WB3.0 to owners of its earlier machines, that is not an option for me 🙁
I am curious though, do you have the same problem with the WB palette and
the picture palette being different enough to cause problems for one or
the other?

Ah, yes you are correct about WB3 and datatypes. Differences between the
WB palette and the picture palette *can* cause problems, but they are
reduced under WB3, because a) The AGA palette is much bigger, although if
you don't have the AGA
chipset, you don't get this advantage. b) WB3 has pen-sharing, where you
ask for a pen with a certain shade of
red, say, and if one is already in use, you get that. If however, no
suitable shade of red exists, one is allocated for you. You can also
supply parameters specifying if the match is exact, or just close.
