PA-16 and Toshiba CDROM
14 messages in this thread
I recently purchased the Toshiba 3401B CD ROM drive. I also got the
Adaptec EZ-SCSI HA but not only do they not have a driver for this
model but their ASPI2DOS manager does not load due to some conflict
with the existing IDE adapter that I have.
Will PA-16 handle this CD-ROM (in DOS/WINDOWS and OS/2).
I read about PA-16 in your responses to others. I would like
to get a SCSI controller to interface with the CD-ROM and possibly
a color scanner that I intend to purchase.
thanks..

Is that really a 3401B or a 3301B drive?
It is a 3401B (200 ms access time-avg 330 kb/sec data transfer)
Was released a month or so ago.
Where did you get it from? Everybody really is hot on this drive (and so am
I!!!) Please put address of your dealer here or send me a mail.
Thanks in advance

Yes, we support that CD-ROM drive but you'll have to purchase the driver
kit. $39 internal and $79 external. I'm told Trantor (510) 770-1400
is developing support for HP scanners. You may wish to contact them.

Please elaborate on "driver kit".. Is this a reference to your
product or is this the drivers from Toshiba. I have ordered
the drivers for this CD-ROM drive from Toshiba but I do not know
if they support PA-16.
thanks for the reply

The driver kit is available from Media Vision and supports CD-ROM
drives connect to the PAS 16 SCSI interface. The Toshiba driver
will be of no use.
I called up Mediavision customer support to order an external kit for my
Toshiba 3401E. They told me that they have no drivers for this model. Is
the driver for the 3301 also compatible for this newer model?
Kenneth,
I'm going to ask you to send your question to
Trantor's Jack Brown [72760,1346].
He should be able to answer any questions on CD compatibility.
Ken
The 3401 is brand new… the current drivers won't support it in
multi-session Photo CD mode yet. But there will be a new driver release
soon that will support the 3401 fully.
Until the Toshiba 3401 driver comes out, can I use the driver for the
3301 model?
I don't know if the 3401 will work with the current driver. It hasn't been
tested yet in that configuration.
I have just installed the Toshiba XM-3401B with the Tantor T130B SCSI card.
It refuses to recognize a multiple session CD (error message: CDR103: CD
ROM not High Sierra or ISO-9660 format). TSLCDR.SYS is dated 8/21/92.
Even if it won't read multisession shouldn't it read the first session? Is
there a newer driver somewhere I'm missing out on? When do you anticipate
the multi-session driver being available and where.
My drive *will* read a Corel Systems CD I have. I have only two disks to
use as tests, the Corel Disk (which ships with Corel Draw on it) and a
multisession Photo CD disk (it has two sessions on it).
Thanks for your help.
Jonathan
For PhotoCD support with Toshiba drives you need Trantor drivers version
1.46g or later. For Multi-Session Photo CD support, you need drivers that
are not yet released. Release is expected in the next couple of weeks.
