Can anyone tell me what is the _best_ way to determine if a printer is
on-line and ready to print at any given time?? Currently, I am using the
AmigaDOS command: Open("PRT:",MODE_OLDFILE); in my program. If a printer
is either not hooked-up, not turned on or not on-line AmigaDOS 'hangs' for
about 60 seconds (waiting to time-out) and then pops-up a requester which
indicates that there is a printer problem, and when I click CANCEL in the
requester it never does. My program gets locked, waiting for Open() to
return, until I turn the printer on. If there's no printer to begin with,
re-boot city!! (Arrgg!) Can you Lock() the PRT: device to determine if
it's ready?? Help!!
