Help! I need a utility, or a lead on a commercial software package, that will take anims created with sculpt, and convert them to ANIM5 format. The AmigaVision program will only display anims that are ANIM5. Can anyone upload a utility, or let me know which software package on the market can do this for me? Any help would be appreciated. Jim

You might check out 'Editor' by Hash Enterprises. It purports to be an anim converter tween formats.. Don't really know if it support Sculpt to ANIM-5. (BTW, Sculpt v 4.09 has ANIM-5 creation, if you didn't already know) (Hash Enterprises phone # 206-693-7443) I had the need to do what you are doing once (before 'Editor' was out) and had to use the Sculpt player to play r-e-a-l s-l-o-w and capture images one-by-one again, and then use another anim creator to put it back together… that was a long time ago, however. –jp–

John, One caveat, tho – I upgraded to SA4D v 4.09 mainly to get the Anim-5 capability. The first time I tried using it, however, I found that the anim played back like molasses! So, while being able to import into AniMagic, PP II, or whatever is nice, B-b-B's proprietary format has the definite advantage of speed (although it's several times s-l-o-w-e-r at compression of the delta images). Yea Joe…. there are several much faster anim formats… I'm awaiting the new PageFlipper 2.0, which they say will have very fast anim capabilities… we will see… –jp–

Hi Jim. Here is the start and end of the doc file about a program written by a fellow Vancouverite – Ron Tarrant. ========================================================================= ANIMATION BRIDGE by Ron Tarrant The software, manual and all related materials for Animation Bridge (ABridge) are copyright ? 1990 by Ron Tarrant and Mythra-mations Animation and Software 902 West 17th Ave. Vancouver, B.C. Canada V5Z-1V4 Fixes compatability problems between animation editors and players that support the Anim-5 standard. Supported output formats are: DPaint III, Animation Station, Animagic, Animation: Editor (pre-v1.12), The Director, and Movie 2.0. Input formats are from any program that creates Anim-5 animation files including SA4D (v2.09), Turbo Silver 3.0, DPaint III, AniMagic, Photon Paint 2.0, Videoscape 2, PageRender 3D, etc. Shareware, Binary only. INTRODUCTION ———— Although there is a standard for IFF animation files now (referred to by most people as ANIM-5 or Anim opt 5) a lot of reader programs and editor/special-effects packages have problems with the variations of the format. For instance, some readers allow changing the colour map 'on the fly' while the animation is playing; others tend to abort or (even worse) crash if they find more than one colour map in a single animation file. Although these problems WILL eventually be cleared up by the companies who've released these products, in the meantime animators still have deadlines to meet and can't waste time pulling animations apart and reassembling them in order to get from one program to another. Enter, Animation Bridge, the interim solution. When you're working on an animation that starts, say, in a 3-D rendering [ MORE ]

Ken.. thanks for uploading the program. Unfortunately, itjust stops one step short of what I need it tto do. If I want to convert a sculpt anim to anim5, (that is, the anim5 format that AmigaVision wants to use) then I see no way of doing it. I know that AmigaVision will read anim5 format files generated by dpaint, so if I use the bridge utility to convert sculpt to dpaint format, it complains that dpaint format will not accept HAM formats. This is unfortunate, but I can see why the person who wrote the software put it in. I thought this was going to be my answer..alas it doesnt seem to be. I tried to get onto the bbs that was listed in the doc files, but you need to send in a reg. fee to even leave messages. So I have no way of contacting the author to get his suggestions. Oh well..but thanks for your help! Jim CBM Ottawa

[ continuation ] package, goes into a combination paint/animation package for some touch-ups, and then goes into another program to have some special effects added, it can be frustrating for you as an animator when one of these programs will not load your animation file or won't do the work required because of some bit of information that is either missing or extraneous. Animation Bridge addresses these problems of going between the various readers/editors of animation files that try very hard to adhere to the Anim-5 standard but, for one reason or another, don't… yet. In time, all these programs will have gone through upgrades or bug-fixes and will have no more problems loading and dealing with 'stranger' animation files. "Animation: Editor" (from Hash Enterprises Ltd.) is an example of one program that has had these problems addressed and the latest version (1.12 at this writing) will load all comers and deal with them more effectively. As we will mention again further on in this manual, Animation Editor is supported by Animation Bridge for versions older that 1.12, just in case you haven't got your upgrade yet. When the rest of the animation readers/editors have been upgraded and distributed, our program – Animation Bridge – will no longer be needed and it can become just another blank disk in your collection. Until then Animation Bridge serves as an interim solution to these problems. ================================ ..most of file omitted… – KC ================================ TOLL GATE ——— Animation Bridge is shareware, and of course you know what shareware is by now. If you use this software, especially if you are using it to help you earn money as an animator, please send a $20.00 MONEY ORDER to: Mythra-mations Animation and Software 902 West 17 Ave. Vancouver, BC Canada V5Z-1V4 We'll send you a version that isn't constantly interupted by a message [ MORE ]
