Yes, Amiga C development has been done at SAS for quite awhile now. The big change is that now _support_ is being done through SAS as well – phone support, Bix, CIS, etc. are all being transferred. This is what has people worried…. -Mike

I am worried, and I am not a Lattice user. Though close, I must admit. I deal with SAS with our SAS product, and I find the support to be annoying mostly for their statistics package. To relay just one story. I had a bad tape that I was trying to install on the VAX. A called the support number and was told I had to speak with technical support, which the line was busy. I got the support person, and that person told me that I had to have sales! I was transfered to sales, where the phone was busy and the operator picked up the phone and asked me "What did I need?". To that I responded "I have a bad tape, I need to get a replacement." She said, "Oh.. ok, you need to talk to sales, and their line is busy. Can I have them call you back?" I said yes, and hung up in frustration. The next day I get a call from SAS technical support, they called to tell me that I was to be called later by sales. Argh. Anyway, they *did* send the tape (in fact the entire distribution), I ended up talking with technical support to "verify" that I indeed had a bad tape. To say the least, it was a nightmare. I do hope that these same folks are not handling Lattice C technical support. -mark=

Actually most of the core C compiler was done at SAS. Most everything else was done at Lattice. We were trying to pull everything to Lattice because of quality problems (which you may have noticed). We'll just have to see what the future brings. — Mike Roth

Well, I hope SAS can do as good a job supporting the comiler as yourself and others at Lattice have done. You guys have a good product, but the support is what really made it fly. In any case, I wish you well in your endeavors, Mike!

Thanks, Mike. I appreciate your comments. The competition between Lattice and Manx has really done much for the users. I hope this change doesn't end up hurting our customers. Things are out of my hands, now. Good luck to you, and keep plugging away. 🙂 — Mike Roth
