#FCII Imp/Export plans?
9 messages in this thread
I was wondering if you plan to increase the number of import/export options
for FC II? I like using it a lot but have occasions to move files between
different computers (since there's no Amiga laptop ;-( ). If you don't
plan to do it, would the appropriate format specs be made available to
others to write add-ons for FC_II?
Just looking to make a good product better…

Mike,
I'll have to check on the availability of document specs. For now,
though, I don't believe we plan to expand the number of filters (loaders/
savers).

Ric,
I certainly hope that you guys do decide to expand the number of filters
for FC II. No matter what SoftWood thinks about the PC universe, most of
us who deal with computers at work do have to deal with PCs as well. If
someone could design an Amiga word processor that could read and write
major PC formats such as Word for Windows and Word imPerfect, it would be
a major boon for people who use their Amigas for serious writing of
work-related stuff.
Any word processor that added that feature would get a significant
percentage increase of the Amiga WP market.
(Prowrite's halfway there… 🙂

Denny,
I think a major hangup with supporting something on the order of Word For
Windowsis, how do you handle the features in W4W that you can't handle?
For example, W4W's best feature is how well it does tables. If you don't
do tables, do discard tables? Do you put up blank spots that say "this
space for rent"?
Another Amiga wordprocessor was promising Wordperfect file compatibility
for about 5 years. I'll bet if you call them, they'll still say "we're
looking into it".
Then PLEASE publish your file format! Make it a "technicial appendix" to
the manual if at all feasible. This will make the information available to
anyone who needs it….

Brian,
I am not aware of a CompuGraphic AGFA <-> Nimbus Q font converter.
Regarding the document specifications, I am only an employee of
SoftWood. I do not make such decisions. I pass along information from
users to work and back again. As I said earlier, I'll pass along that
users are requesting that we make available those specifications. I can't
promise that anything will happen. I hope you'll understand.
Glad to read that you like our printing. We're justifiably proud of
it.

Ric,
About the library files in the FCLIBS drawer. Does FCII know how to
find them, or do I need to supply a path in the FCII icon? Or should
I copy them to the LIBS drawer on the SYS?
I noticed that they appear to be format converting libraries for using
text from/to other libraries, but when I hit EXPORT it lists only ASCII
and Finalcopy in the window.

Ronald,
Those libraries are only used for importing.
When saving a document, the only two choices available are Final Copy
II and ASCII.
