#CD-ROM at DAK? Tiger? ??

Good to hear the positive report on the DAK CD hardware. I think the
bundled software is the part that will sell me. About 6 of the 17 titles
that they include in the 3 bundles were already on my buy list. Makes good
sense to get them all. I'm sure I'll find things on the other CDs that will
be useful in the future.
Is the caddy really such a upscale feature? DAK makes it sound like
only a peon would own a caddyless system.
I'll probably decide this weekend. DAK is back ordered on the $399 BSR
drive till June 26th, I wonder if it will come in much after that.

I like the caddyless drive, and frankly, its performance is very close to
the $399 drive. For example, to do a very complex search in our new "white
pages" disk took exactly 95 seconds for either drive! Although the
caddyless drive has slower access time, it actually has higher throughput
and the combination of these factors makes the drive competitive speed-wise
with the $399 caddy drive. Playing the famous elephant animation sequence
took 100 seconds on the $399 drive and 106 seconds on the $199 drive. Not
a heck of a lot of difference.

I find the caddy to be a pain–I ended up buying seven of them so I can
quickly change CDs. I even waited a long time before buying a third CDROM
drive for the Tandy to see if I would like their caddyless drive–I didn
't.
