NEC 74 & Gateway
3 messages in this thread
Anyone have help? I just took delivery of a Gateway 486 66 and a NEC cdr-74
CD ROM. After installing everything, two things stand out. When I try to
run something like Carmen Sandiego, that audio gives me fits. The character
will start talking and sometimes you get audio and other times not. I'm
guessing it has something to do with the double speed of this drive.
Also, in installing the CD-ROM, the NEC booklet that describes
installation, also indicates that in setting up the audio, there is a way
to change the IRQ assignments. I can't find anywhere in the included
installation software to do that.
Finally, although I get audio (sometimes) in running the disks, I can't
quite figure out how to get the audio capabilities into Windows 3.1.
Any help anyone can offer would be more surely appreciated. Thanks.
Walter,
What sort of adapter card are you using with the cdr-74? I've been unable
to get the cdr-74 to work with my Gateway 486/33 using the Trantor T-130
adapter and NEC has reported a possible firmware fix to make the drive more
compatible with Gateway computers. I'm still looking into it.

Walter, I am using a Gateway 2000 66dxmzh with a NEC 73M and a Trantor host
adapter and everything runs great. Ted
