I want to defer further comments on the Lantastic/3DS problem until James
has had a chance to check it out. He is in Houston today but wil but will
be around to take a look on Monday. I'll get back with you then
Fair enough. I don't think I mentioned that Lantastic is looking into it
also for me. They are trying to get a copy of 3DS from Autodesk to check
it with.
BTW, we had the "Retry" error since I left my last message and I tried what
you had tried about rebooting the offending workstation to no avail.

Are you talking about about the fail, retry from when you shell to DOS? If
so, I reported this before the product shipped. I get it with any type of
removable media that has been removed.
It would seem that 3DS, instead of taking the hitting the device over to
head and see if responds approach could do something more subtle.
Sorry if I'm off base, I seemed to have missed the first part of the topic.
Robert-
No, the error is even less subtle than that. Has nothing to do with
shelling- you just get an ugly disk error message on top of your 3DS
session and your session is toast.
After a bit, we also got a similar error in XTREE (note that this program
has to be in "standard" configuration to work with any NETBIOS LAN.)
Lantastic has reviewed our configuration and told us to disable SMARTDRV's
write caching, which makes a lot of sense. We have tried that and see what
happens.

It's nice to hear that you got the same error from Xtree. I'm curious to
see how it goes after you test disabling SMARTDRV's write cache.

We're a day into it with no problems. We'll spend some time trying to trip
it up this week.
Irritating about SMARTDRV: there is absolutely no mention in the doc's
about this. It makes perfect sense, but not mentioning a conflict with
something that Windows installs automatically seems shoddy on their part.
This is new software, too.
–Noah
This is not the first time I've heard about SMARTDRV causing problems.
ARGH!

PS: Glad to hear that it's smooth sailing so far. Let me know.
