I'm sure that 3D Studio release 2 is an excellent program but probably
my credit car aren't agree with my opinion (yet). I'm writing from
Spain (Europe) and yes, I have multimedia dealers here but I buy the
expensive soft and hard in the States (with the exception of U.K.,
here you can see products prices up to 50% higher than the States
ones).
Spain, huh? Is that in Europe? Just joking – I'm from Inglaterra
myself but ran away to America in 1985, que triste! Which part of
Spain? I travelled through by train to Morocco a few times (Valencia,
Barcelona, Sevilla, Algeciras and back through Madrid to France) and
now my wife is from Mexico, although when I try to speak Espanol with
here she ignores me or laughs a lot, oh well! Seriously, I think your
best program for the least money would be Hi-res QFX. It does
everything you need, I think, and is only $1000 (targa or targa+) or
$1250 (ATVista) – Lumena is much, much more $2500 for Targa 16 or
$4000 for ATVista (ouch!). Do you have a targa, targa+ or ATVista (or
compatible) video card because you will need one for any of these

Some of it's features are: image processing, compositing, retouch and
color correction of up to 8k resolution images. It has paint
functions and supports pressure-sensitive paintbrushes (Wacom
support). Creates complex masks and deletes backgrounds, lasso parts
of the image with lines or curves and edit the selected area (drag,
add, delete points) and apply a function to that area. The edges can
be hard, soft or anti-aliased. All the functions can be saved to a
queue to be applied later to a whole sequence of files.

What? I thought Torremolinos was "la capital de la movida
mundial"! <g> Actually, Manchester in the UK was a lot of fun for me as a
student (1982-1985). It is supposed to have the highest ratio of full-time
students to non-students of any major European city. Also, it has a high
concentration of nightclubs in the city centre and university area. That
was a good combination!
Are you doing animation full-time, or is it in addition to your
regular job? I had a job as a computer programmer with a software company
but quit one year ago. Now I work for myself, doing animation from my
house. I make less money, but have more freedom and satisfaction. Good
luck with the Hi-res QFX information.
