#GVP 3001
5 messages in this thread
I was thinking about buying a used GVP 3001 with the IDE controller and I
already have a GVP Series II SCSI controller with 8MB on it. I was
wondering if anyone knew if the combination would work?

Jonathan,
Yes, it works quite well…I have the exact combo.
The old configuration was an IDE 120 on the 3001, a Quantum Pro40s on the
GVP Series II. The new combo is a Quantum 210s, the Quantum 40s and a
CD-ROM on the Series II, and nothing on the 3001. The boot chips are still
in, however (figured it wouldn't hurt to leave them in), which adds a bit
to my boot time until the IDE controller times out…about ten seconds.

Were you able to keep the memory on the GVP SCSI controller and also the
memory that's on the accelerator?
-Jonathan
You can keep the memory on the controller. It will coexist with the 32-bit
fast(est) memory on the accelerator card. If (when) you add more ram do it
on the 32-bit side if there's room, though. — Art
Jonathan,
There's no memory on my GVP HD controller…so there is no conflict with
the 8 megs on the 3001.
