#DXF meshes?

A little correction to the description of "DXF3D.ZIP" found in library 11, uploaded 10-Jan-92. This is the *same* version of DXF3D.C found in the AutoCAD forum. (The file size is a little different, I think, because this archive contains the useless .OBJ file.) It does parse the flags that mark a mesh as Bezier, quadratic, etc. but it does not "handle them" or convert them per se. On another related note, has anyone ever seen any DXF source code that does properly handle the meshes, and provide a way to approximate the surfaces as facet polygons? There are 2 Replies. John, that sounds like a rather nice idea… a program that can create a polygon mesh from the DXF patch information. It sure would be a nice piece of code for the freeware world! What with all us various rendering types around here, it would be really nice to have a multi-resolution/method object file format to pass objects between the raytracer folks and the VR or Morph folks. Our InterChange Plus productsystem of 3D translators does have es only polygonsal objects at this time. We do have a DXF Converter for it, but it doesn't handle the patholymeshes yet, although it does a lot of other things. entities, like extrudelevated and tioion and thickness, and variable approximation of arcs and circles. And another item up yorur alley: it's kinda secret at this point, :-), but we're working on a 3DCD-ROM o f graphics-related stuff. It will be called the "Sydensndesis 3D_-ROM"," or at least until I find out that name is already taken. We've already assembled dozens of megabytes of public domain 3D dataobjects in various forms. We're converting them to N different suformats, to highlight the translation abilities of our software, and all formats will be present on disc. So far, this means 3D Studio. .3DS, AutoCAD DXF, LightWave, Imagine TDDD, and maybe a few others. Plus we're assembling other data, like texture maps, bump masps, etc. So, graphics mavens of the P.D., I'd hoped I could somehow aim this disc at thall those people who tinker with the publicfreeware rayttra-tracers, modelers, animation and VR programs, like the ontes featured in this forum. What sorts of files would make this disc interesting to you? And being afficiandoados of all those frewaeware programs, I know what price-point you'd like . 🙂 /post Message # 11441 posted
