Harry – Thanks for the info. You are correct about the mini pnone jack.
However, it appears that it will only do audio CDs. The deeper I go back
into magazine articles and manuals, the more it seems that a sound card is
required for audio from a data disc, at least the newer ones.
I still would like to find out if buying the T-130 was a good idea
(and why), and if it was, what's a good, compatible sound board to go with
it. A lot of documentation mentions Sound Blaster. Is that a generic
description or a specific trademark, or what? I'd like a board of decent
quality but without s lot of bells and whistles <g>. All advice gladly
received. – Carl
My unit is a Trantor, but I can not find a refference to a model 130. It
plays photo cd and cd rom. I have a Pro Audio board and I can play cd rom's
and hear the sound from the mini jack only. I have to connect the mini jack
to my amp to get sound through the speakers.
If the sound files are WAV and such you would need a sound board to read
them and the sound should then come through the board. But I am assuming
that some CD's have sound recorded on them like a standard Music CD. In
that case I would agree that it must come through the mini jack. Try a
Music CD and see what happens.
By the way, I have heard Sound Blaster is a good card, although I have two
Pro Audio 16 units.

From what I can gather the Trantor T130 is the new version of the
T128, which is simply a SCSI Host Adapter.
I appreciate hearing about your success with the PAS 16 boards.
What has me confused is that a lot of these boards seem to have an on-board
CD-ROM interface. It seems kind of extravagant (and expensive) to have two
interfaces *if* you only need one.
I understand completely about the *.WAV files. It seems like a
sound card is a real necessity.
It would have been nice if Trantor had jumped in to tell me that
there is some compelling reason why I need their interface at the risk of
having an unused, redundant, second one on a sound card.

I wish I knew more about SCSI interfaces. I have the same problem. My sound
boards have interfcaes, my CD ROM has an interface and I have SYQUEST
removable harddisks with an interface. Perhaps if I knew what I was doing I
could make them all one interface??????

If you have a SCSI CD-ROM drive and a SYQUEST you can hang them all off of
one SCSI host/adapter.
Also if you get a SCSI host adapter be sure it is ASPI compatible (or has
an ASPI driver available)> This opens up your options quite nicely.
Thank you for the info. I also have a AAA Always Technology IN-2000 SCSI
Board. It's a 16 bit adapter. Do you think this would work also?
I must admitt it is hard to keep up with all the technology and software
coming out.

I'm quite sure Always IN-2000 has a ASPI driver available. You might leave
a message in the COREL forum and see it is supported. (GO COREL) Also you
might try the IBM hardware forum (GO IBMHW) I remember seeing some files
from Always in that forum.

I have an Always IN-2000 with the ASPI drivers and it works fine with Corel
SCSI. You may need a ROM BIOS upgrade from Always. It's about $30.

Albert Dayes reply appears quite correct. My Trantor manual says,
"Trantor software is available to support…: Hard Drives; Mag.-Op.
Drives; **Removable Media Drives (*SyQuest,…); Tape Drives; Floptical &
SCSI Floppies." Although I suspect there may be an additional cost for
such software <g>.
