#Good CD business dir.?

I am looking for a listing of American businesses on CD-ROM. There are several
such offerings I know of, none of which are really appropriate for my needs.
I work with a marketing company which buys mailing lists. They currently pay
2-3 cents per name for prequalified lists. We'd like to be able to cut this
down some, but even more, it'd be a lot more convenient if we could get this
sort of thing on CD-ROM.
I have some information from the Business America directory, but their
low-priced product offers no means of downloading. Their full-blown one is
priced at $7500 for the first 20,000 names, then 30 cents per name afterward.
Needless to say, the price of that one is prohibitive.
I have also looked at the ProPhone CD-ROM, which claims to have all business
and residential phone directories from the US on it. The price is right on this
one–only $149–and they'll let you download, but the information seems pretty
inaccurate. I don't have a phone listing at all, despite being in the same
house for quite a while, and it the same city for several years. The owner of
the company is listed at his address as of two years ago, etc. So I was not too
impressed with the residential stuff (yes, this is the '93 edition). It's hard
to tell about the business stuff, but I got a little suspicious when it only
found 49 wheat farmers in all of Kansas, and one of those was "Joe's LP Gas
Service."
Does anyone know of any really good CDs out there with business information on
them, that are also reasonably priced? Even a few thousand bucks would probably
be okay (although a few hundred would be even niced <g>), but 30 cents a name
is way too much. One ad campaign can easily use hundreds of thousands of names.
They would need to have info on business name, address, phone and
classification. Other things like num. employees, contact name, etc., would be
icing on the cake.

business lists and references, you could try ZP4 by Semaphore (408-688-9200)
and Dialog Busisness and Industry References by Dialog Info Svcs
(415-858-2700).

Michael I had the misfortune of buying the pro-phone 1992 three disc
set, and It was the worst piece of junk I ever bought ….and I have
bought some real trash. I looked up my family name and compared it to
the KC current directory. It found 12 names out of 42, half of the
12 had no current match in the book,and at the head of pro-phone list
was my uncle who died 8 years ago. I also found that I was no longer
a resident of Kc after living in the same house for 22years. I
purchased these three frisbys to augment a mailing list of automobile
dealers for an auction I do some work for. I did a search for
missouri and came up with less dealers than are in the city…the
whole thing reminds me of a book with every other page gone..Its
worthless….anyone have any suggestions for a cd that realy has the
yellow pages?
HI, The mentioned CD as you have said is not very accurate. It maybe useful,
but after the validating the accuracy of the information, and feedback from the
customers, we have decided to elimate it from our product listings. TTYL
I found a really good one: PhoneDisc USA.
They have both Residential (on two CDs) and Business (on 1 CD). I have found
both to be very useful and up-to-date.
They have several other specific phone directories as well.
