RTf 06/04 0823 Acclaim <AKLM.O> enter PC game market
CHICAGO, June 4, Reuter – Acclaim Entertainment Inc said it has
entered the personal computer game market and has signed an agreement
for <Hi Tech Expressions Inc> to distribute PC versions of several
Acclaim video game titles throughout North America.
The company said Hi Tech plans to distribute the first Acclaim PC
games, compatible with International Business Machines Corp <IBM.N>
and Commodore International Ltd <CBU.N> Amiga PC's in August. Acclaim
also said it has reached agreement for <Virgin Games Ltd> to
distribute PC versions of Acclaim games in Europe, starting this
fall.
Good news, even if I rarely play games with mine; maybe I'll give this
Acclaim stuff a look-see when it starts shipping (like I don't ALREADY
need three more hours in each day)….
Well it's good to see an announcement of a major game company
supporting the Amiga, instead of the 'doom and gloom' like Sierra.
But the only way we are going to keep game company's supporting the
Amiga is to BUY their games. So if you like a particular Acclaim
game, go buy it, please don't pirate it! (This is not directed at you
Steve <g>).

It'll probably be ports of their old 8-bit NES stuff. I'd rather play ACES OVER
EUROPE over WIZARDS AND WARRIORS any day! Don't expect anything groundbreaking
from those guys….

Among the first Acclaim titles Virgin will distribute are Terminator
2(TM):Judgment Day and Alien 3, based on the blockbuster movies; Mortal
Kombat(R), the number one martial arts arcade phenomenon anticipated to be a
1993 best seller on Nintendo and Sega formats; Bart vs. The World(TM), based on
TV's top-rated animated Simpsons, and The Incredible Crash Dummies(TM), an
action/adventure game featuring Tyco Toys popular action figure properties.
They're going to put out Mortal Kombat??? Guess I'm going to have to buy
a game 😀
(Mortal Kombat is the only game I like in the arcades now!)
