Hi, everybody!
I've got one or two problems maybe you could help me with:
I do MIDI with my Amiga 2000 and a DIY MIDI interface (working like a
charm…). My MIDI equipment is an Ensoniq ESQ'1 for synth sounds and a s
master keyboard (can't afford a proper one) and a Roland U-110 for "real"
sounds (and a Korg DDD-1 which I hardly use these days). My MIDI interface
has 1 MIDI In/4 Out/1 Thru (non-switchable). The Roland has MIDI
In/Out/Thru Ensoniq and Korg only MIDI In/Out.
In a sequencing situation (Dr.T's KCS v3.54) I would have to have the
Ensoniq's MIDI Out to Amiga MIDI In and 2 of the MIDI Outs to MIDI In on
Ensoniq and Roland. This also works when using an editor for the ESQ'1.
For live play (without KCS active) I have to have te computer on and
change the MIDI cord to the Roland from MIDI Out to Thru manually.
For use of an editor with the Roland I have to have both the ROland's
MIDI In _and_ Out connected to the Amiga because the editor has to send
and receive data to/from the U-110. For this I have to switch cords
_again_!
WHAT can I do to be able to keep my cabling and still do all of the
above? Do I have to buy an (expensive) MIDI-ized MIDI PatchBay/Merger?
I'm also looking for editors/librarians (if possible PD/Free-/Shareware)
for ESQ'1, Roland U-110, Korg DDD-1.

How about using one of the smaller (i.e. cheaper) MIDI merge
"stomp box" " sized units. I've got one from Voice Crystal (the
Merger Plus). Its a box about 1" x 2" x 3" which combines 2 MIDI ins
(from the MIDI outs on your synths) into 1 MIDI out (which would go
to your Amiga MIDI interface's MIDI in). Mine ran me about $100 – I
think Anatek makes one which is cheaper.
If I understood your letter correctly, you want to be able to use a
patch librarian for 2 separate MIDI devices. I think this will suit your needs
without having to buy some huge rack-mount MIDI patchbay "thing".
