Anyone know a shareware or freeware utility to convert an .EPS file to
.AI? I am attempting to export some text from Acad, and DXF makes the
file way too big and complicated. Any help appreciated
Tim,
Definitely not shareware, but CorelDRAW will load .EPS and write AI,
with much editing capability inbetween. I find it generally easier to
do most non-precision 2D shape creation (text, etc.) with Corel.
Otherwise ACAD to the rescue.

Yes, I finally resorted to using the copy of COREL we have at work.
Unfortunately, I was hoping converting a DWG to an AI, would simplify
it, considering it was only text. but my ignorance showed through and
it came out exactly the same. the thing had 5180 verticies in the 2d
shaper and that is a little high for my tastes. I didn't feel like
manually simplifying it, so I was hoping that converting it to .AI
format would maybe use splines or something instead of leaving it
like it was before. Ah well…
