Hi everybody. Here's a news flash from Pinnacle for all of my Pinnacle customers (and even those who aren't my customers) here in cyberspace. If you own or are planning to purchase an RCD, this is important stuff. THERMAL RECALIBRATION Most disk drives (hard drives, optical drives, etc.) perform an action called "thermal recalibration" every so often. Sometimes this occurs periodically, and sometimes it occurs after a specified temperature change. It is done more often by large, fast hard drives. Sometimes, due to the firmware design, this process causes delays of up to 1 second to the Macintosh system. If this occurs while you are creating a CD you will get an error "-186." This means that the internal buffer on the RCD has run dry (personal note: this is … bad.) If this occurs the CD will be *unusable* (see, told you.) DO NOT try over and over again. If this happens to you, contact Pinnacle Technical Support at 714-727-3300 immediately. Pinnacle has confirmed that most Micropolis hard drives are incompatible with the RCD for this reason. SMALL FILES When performing a file by file copy such as ISO-9660 and HFS the overhead required to open and close many small files can cause the RCD buffer to run dry (this, in Ghostbusters terminology is known as "total protonic reversal.") Again, this will cause the disk to be unusable. Please try to copy only files over approximately 8K to the RCD. The current driver software is now version 1.2. Any RCD customer who hasn't received their copy can contact Pinnacle at 1-800-553-7070 to get their copy sent to them immediately (of course, my customers have theirs <g>.)
