Dear All,
Do you know how to get a message to a FIDOnet user via the
compuserve mailing system.. I don't know where the FIDO net links into the
other nets as I never tried to find out before. I would also be pleased to
know if it's possible to get mail to:
Zerberus, PCNET, BIX, GEnie, ARPA-Internet, CSNET, BITNET/EARN, TCD which
is in Ireland on EirPAC (or so they say), and last but not least RWTH
Aachen in Germany.
I have not yet been able to deepen my level of stupidity concerning
internet so that I am as of yet an inocent bystander who looks on in
wonder as his mail gets sent and returns only to say that it hasn't
arrived as of yet. But then I think that it has always been the same…
just that now it's not the postman who returns the letter because of a
misspelt name but it's the Internet which eats users for breakfast :-).
If you can help me I'd be happy as Larry (with a new rattle and teething
ring).

p.s. so far I've mastered MCI mail and faxes… now I'll try for an
X.400… (Does FORD make them???)

FIDOnet is reachable, as there are FIDOnet<->internet gateways, but I
don't know much more about FIDOnet.
As for your other questions, I'll answer for the ones I know, and pass on
the ones I don't know about. First off, anything reachable via the
internet is reachable from CIS' Cmail, by addressing it to
>INTERNET:addresee@computersite. Internet includes Arpanet, and I believe
bitnet as well. To reach a user on BIX you would do >INTERNET:user@bix.com
and GEnie would be >INTERNET:user@genie.geis.com. As better examples, I
can be reached on BIX by: >INTERNET:schiller@bix.com and on GEnie with:
>INTERNET:schiller@genie.geis.com Currently on GEnie users that want to be
able to access the internet have to register for the service, but after
July 1 that will change, and all GEnie users will be able to access the
internet (for mail) with no additional charges.

This is a quote from 'Zen and the Art of the Internet':
The FidoNet computer networkcan be reached by using a special
addressing method. If John Smith is on the node '1:2/3.4' on
FidoNet, his or her email address would be
'john.smith@p4.f3.n2.z1.fidonet.org' (notice how the numbers fall in
place?).
So using the example above with CIS you would use
'>INTERNET:john.smith@p4.f3.n2.z1.fidonet.org'. Wow, that's quite the

I think that'll go most of the way I want to go as far as FIDO is
concerned. Now all I have to do is get a few more fidos. (what country do
you call home?).
