Tom, I have and use the AD516 audio card and a Pansonic AG-1960. The AG-1960 does not read or write time code so I don't see how you are going to use this machine to stripe or chase time code. I also have the Panasonic AG-7750 which is a considerably more expensive deck than the AG-1960. The AG-7750 is single frame capable and can be equipped with a SMPTE time code reader/writer. I edit my tapes using the AG-1960 as the recording VCR, then place the master edited tape into the AG-7750 and stripe one of the two non hifi audio channels with time code. I then use the SMPTE output from this tape being played on the AG-7750 to trigger the AD516 cue list and feed the video output from the AG-7750 to the AG-1960 and the audio output from the AD516 to the AG-1960. This gives me a third generation tape with hifi audio mix from the AD516 synchronized with the video. I then connect the audio output from the AG1960 to the audio input of the AG-7750, cue up both tapes to exactly the same point, start both tape machines together, and dub the audio fron the AG-1960 back to both linear audio channels of the AG-7750. End result is a second generation edited tape complete with the sound mix, in stereo, produced by the AD516. I don't know of any way (even on the AG-7750) to simultaeously playback time code on one linear track while recording audio on the other linear track. Tom

Tom, Just a guess…you might want to play with the Audio Out button on the 1960's remote control. It allows you to switch both tracks to standard audio, or both to HiFi, or one of each. I imagine that if you stripe the tape using HiFi audio, and then switch to alternate audio types, you could insert edit a soundtrack to the linear audio section. This *might* work. I can't think of any other way to do it. I assume that the time code is LITC, right? //Jonathan, \\//via AutoPilot

Tom, The 1960 has a specific problem with what you want to do. Both tracks cannot be output separately as you need. You need the time code modification. Discount Video Wharehouse (they have ads in Videographer and other trade publications) will install the modification for $150 plus shipping. You will probably want to use the HiFi tracks for sound and one of the linear tracks for time code.
