Jay,
Sorry for the delay in this response, you'll find out as you read on in
this section.
To print portrait, here's what I would try:
I'll use an algebra formula to help you understand:
If Paper_Width minus Print_Area_Left minus Print_Area_Right is equal to
or less than 8 inches, the document will be printed as portrait, else it
will be printed in landscape mode.
So, a custom paper with 9-inches width, and Print Area left and right
both set to 0.5 will mean that you have 8-inches of width…and will end
up with a portrait print-out.

In each of a dozen messages you left recently, you noted that you would
post a message explaining your long absence. I can't find that message,
and now you've got my curiousity up!
Also, I seem to remember posting a question or two (such as: Why does my
DeskJet500 print with a .5" margin even though FinalCopyIIr2 says that
margins are set to 1" and there are no headers or anything?) which you
didn't get to this time. I might have posted them in response to someone
else's message. I take it you are more likely to read things posted to
you rather than in response to another message?
If you replied to someone else and asked a question, I won't butt in. If
you replied to someone else and do something like this:
Ric> Why did such-n-such …
I'll notice that and reply. I _do_ read all messages here in this section
as long as they haven't rolled off. (Which, if I have my way, won't
happen again.)

Dale,
Regarding your margin problem, are your choosing to print as Graphic
Printer (Final) or Graphic Printer (Draft)?

Graphic Printer (Final).
It is a DeskJet 500, which is a black and white printer. I've never
had any other problems with it when used with WP, PageStream, DPaint
IV. I didn't notice a problem when I had Final Copy I, though it may
be because I didn't print much at home until recently.
Dale,
What are your print area and edit area settings (in Page Setup under
Project menu)?

Defaults. .625, .625, .25, .25, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0.
And what page size do you have selected?
Ric: What is your recommended procedure for printing envelopes on a DJ500C
printer? I had it set up OK before I got Release 2, but now with Release 2
the printer prints in landscape mode.
Sorry if this repeats something you said earlier, but I missed the
beginning of the thread…

Sorry to butt in here, but does the 500C take the envelope horizontally or
vertically? I have a 550C which takes envelopes vertically (narrow
side/end fed in first) and I also have a macro which takes the address
block from your letter, converts it to landscape, and prints it on your
envelope.
I tried to upload it to this forum, but it has a closed files section. If
this macro would help you, let me know.

Dave,
There are two criteria that must be met in order for Final Copy II
Release 2 to trigger the landscape mode. They are:
Width must be greater than eight inches
Height must be less than width
In both cases, Width or Height equals Page Size minus appropriate Print
Area settings.
Since you are not likely to be printing past eight inches on your
envelopes, here's what I've told others to try:
Width = 9.0
PrintArea: Left = .25 and Right = .75
or
PrintArea: Left = .5 and Right = .5
Or something similar. Since width is 9 inches, if you also subtract
the left and right print area settings, you end up at exactly 8 inches.
This will 'disqualify' the document for landscape printing.
If you need further clarification, let me know.

Dale,
Which printer driver are you using?
I'm not sure what I can tell you. We have a DeskJet, a DeskJet 500, a
DeskJet 500C and a DeskJet 550C at work and they all seem to print fine
for us.

Is this a hint, or is there a real reason? 🙂

Using the driver which came with my stock A4000.
Not a hint, just my sig.

You solution helps and I don't have to mess with the vertical width
anymore.
I still think that portrait/landscape mode should be a user-selectable
option though.

Jay,
What do you mean, "Portrait/Landscape should be user selectable"? Go into
your printer prefs, in the print gadget of FCII, and select what you want.
I just did this just prior to going online.

The only place I can find this option is under Postscript button. I'm not
using a postscript printer so I don't think this would apply to me?
-J
Yes, having Postscript would help….
