Could someone tell me the basic proceedure for drawing a pixel on an
Amiga display? I am wondering if the video uses a linear memory map
or if you have a lot of register programming to do. Or could someone
recommend a good book I could get? I'm interested in a 640×350 or so
resolution but need real fast screen redraws.
You need to get a hold of the Rom Kernal Manuals for any specific
Amiga Programming.

To draw a individual pixal you use WritePixel(&rastPort, x, y);

That's what I'm trying to determine. What is the fast method of
writing a pixel. On a PC's VGA card you just move a byte into a
memory location. With register writes to control display memory
"windows" or "pages". Trying to determine if I could use one of the
new Amiga systems for a fast graphics display or if a PC would be
faster.
I program a PC for a living. I have written pleny of software that
runs in VESA SVGA 640 * 480 * 256, and the AGA machines can move
bitmaps around much faster! Even compared to a local bus VESA
machine, with code written to run in protected mode! Have you seen
The 7th Guest yet? We ran it on our local bus 486, with the NEC
multispin drive and 16 megs of ram. The graphics don't look too
smooth! (They do look nice, and it's a great game though 😉
No, haven't seen 7th Guest yet. So the AGA machines are faster? I've
got an Amiga 2000 ( just to put my Toaster in <g> ) and have an
interest in the graphics write speed of the new 4000's. Do you know
if the new AGA machines have linedraw and bitblt engines in hardware?
