Help, Hires Flic Problem

My computer basically refuses to playback 640×480 res FLICS. It will
only playback 320×200 FLICS; within 3DS, under DOS-based AAPLAY, with
AAWIN in small window mode only (not full screen). Under windows,
using AAWIN.ZIP it will only playback 7 of the 14 640×480 FLICS that
are on the world creating toolkit CD. The remaining 7 crap out with
the following message:
"AAWIN caused a General Protection Fault in module VIPER_32.DR at
0001:6B0E"
When I render my own hires flics, it refuses to play them as well. Within 3DS
it refuses to play hires flics all together. With the VIPER I use the Panacea
driver. I have tried to use the standard 256 color VGA driver that comes with
3DS without success. I get the "Protection Fault" routine with any VIPER
Windows driver setup (8-bit, 16-bit, 24-bit). The Animator Pro Windows hires
player will not work at all!<<
Hello and sorry for the delayed response. We just switched from DOSCIM to
WINCIM and your message got "foldered".
The VIPER as you have found out has BIG problems with Autodesk Animations.
Diamond knows this and is working on new drivers.
I don't know where they are located here online. I would call them directly and
ask if they can send you updated drivers.
Thanks
Let me know if you can't get through, we have contacts there.

PMJI, Jon, but characterizing the Viper VLB as having "big problems with
Autodesk animations" is simply a falsehood. I use the card everyday with all
sorts of Adesk (and other) products, running everything from 320×200
FLIs to 1024×768 .FLCs to 640×480 65K color f16 files with virtually NO
problems — just great performance! There's probably a thing or two that needs
work (perhaps the VESA-oriented HI-res playback within 3DS — I haven't tested
it because it is not an important issue IMHO), but it's awesome for everything
I've been using it for…
