Do I _have_ to have a software program to run audio CDs? I think the player has
that functionality built in. I'll know tomorrow or Thursday when it arrives.

You need software to control the audio facilities. The drive will come with a
program but thoes supplied tend to be rather basic. No disc catalogue, custom
play, etc etc.
