#Amphenol SCSI Cable Info
4 messages in this thread
I have recently purchased an Adaptec 1742A EISA SCSI-2 controller, and plan to
hook it up to a Toshiba 3401E external CD-ROM (as soon as the Toshiba comes off
back-order <g>). I was having some difficulty locating the right cable for it,
and thought I would share the results of my successful search.
I read somewhere that Adaptec requires (or at least "strongly needs" <bg>) an
Amphenol external cable. I finally tracked Amphenol down to New York, and
ordered my cable from Mr. Al Diamond, phone number (607) 786-4313.
For an Adaptec 1742A or 1542C, connecting to a 50-pin Centronics connector on
the CD-ROM, the correct part number is 16672. The cost is about $31.00 for
regular customers, $28.50 for resellers, and no tax is assessed either way.
Hope this message helps those of you who need this high quality, 90 ohm
impedance cable!

Well, if he'll sell quantity ones Adaptec owners (and probably Adaptec
itself) will kiss his feet!
Yep, Al Diamond *does* sell quantity ones, as evidenced by my cable which
should even now be crawling its way from NY to CA <g>.
The other thing is that I want to point out that Al Diamond works for Amphenol.
It took 4-5 calls to find him, though. I told him that there are active
discussions on CI$ about the cables, though I'm not sure that he or his company
has ever *been* on CI$ <bg>. Perhaps those who now call him can say that they
"heard about him on CompuServe", so that they will find it in their own best
interest to see what we think!

Try the (GO IBMHW) forum. They have many SCSI experts on-line with several
suggestions to help you find a cable for your host adapter.
