Actually, every internal termination I have ever found can be removed. The
devices that offer only a single connector can be
worked around as well. I thought all such beasts were slain but I recently had
a client using Bernoulli so I picked one up and much to my amazement, it was
internally terminated and single connector… Don't engineers that places like
those ever wonder what if Every mfg required that their device be the first or
last on the bus?
Anyway, glad to hear that its working well. Trust us that you would be much
less happy with the slower access times….

It is internally terminated, but has two connectors. I don't know why.

I have just purchased one of the MacWarehouse drives too. Haven't used it much
ezxcept for the Grolier, which seemed to work fine. It seems to slow down the
IIci that it's connected to.
I have it at the end of a SCSI chain that includes an external hard drive and a
Syquest. In the event I have to change the configuration and NEED this drive to
be in mid-chain, I'll need to remove the termination. You say it's easy, but
what does that mean exactly?

I got the $299 MW CD as well, but mine doesnt work with the Groliers no matter
what I do. Just says "Initializing G Encyc 1992.." then it says it cant use it
because of an error -192. The drive seems quick, but I think your 'slowdown' is
because of something I read regarding the CD tieing up the CPU with its use.

Could it be that the PowerUser CD-ROM does not do caching, or only has a 64K
cache, vs. 256K in the Sony, NEC, and Toshiba?
I don't know. Just inquiring. I'm curious as to why a dual-speed, multisession
drive is being sold at about half the going rate. Must be a reason beyond just
excessive inventory or marketing.
I noticed the ad did not list the access (ms) and data transfer (Kb/sec) rates
(making it a bit of a "pig in a poke" right?) Do specs come with the machine?
Does anybody know whose mechanism and driver is used?

MacWarehouse's $299 CD-ROM: Mechanism=NEC-55, Data Transfer Rate=300KB (150KB
audio), Acess time=400MS, Cache=64K.
The Groliers works fine on mine but the Animals disk doesnt work on mine at
all. I keep getting as far as then installation and the installer says there
has been an error. I've tried turing everything off (inits) and still get the
same error messages. Most annoying. I also can't get the Macintosh Demo
Applications CD to to mount at all, but the Macintosh Demo Games CD works fine.

Well, I'm an idiot. Here i've been moaning about how my "Animals" CD wont work
and I discovered I goofed (maybe). Ya know I've always heard that you should
have ALL SCSI devices turned on while your working with your Mac…but did I
listen? I usually don't turn on my scanner, but I thought "what the hey…I've
tried everything else". Now I dont know why or how, but my animals CD works
fine as does my Groliers and everything else. There is still only one disk now
that I cant even get the bloddy thing to mount, and thats "The Macintosh Demo
Applications CD", but I'm not gona have a cow about that one (works fine on the
Apple 300 I have at work).
