#Adaptec/Future Domain?

I'll be purchasing a Toshiba 3401B soon, but am waffling on the choice of SCSI
adapter. The system has a 486/33 ISA bus motherboard with 8MB, and perhaps
16MB someday. My operating system is OS/2 2.x, which supports both the Adaptec
and Future Domain controllers natively. Which company provides better
technical support to the *consumer*? Is EZSCSI or PowerSCSI the more
compatible and bug-free product? Should I be concerned about ASPI versus CAM,
even though PowerSCSI contains a CAM-to-ASPI conversion layer?

My favorite is the Adaptec as I have had some problem with the FD. I doubt
service is a real problem for the controller as my experience is that they are
plug and go for the most part. Adaptec is considered an industry standard and
is a safe buy but if you need support you will need to get it from your local
dealer and not Adaptec.

ASPI is better supported than CAM, so if you need to change hardware there will
be less grief. Each layer of drivers causes additional delays and uses
additional memory. I'd compare specs assuming you'll need ASPI to access many
SCSI devices like scanners and CD-ROM drives. The specs I'd compare are
transfer rates and high memory usage on the CPU you plan to use. Adaptec just
bought Trantor, so they are likely to have the best driver support.
