ASPI is better supported than CAM, so if you need to change hardware there will be less grief. Each layer of drivers causes additional delays and uses additional memory. I'd compare specs assuming you'll need ASPI to access many SCSI devices like scanners and CD-ROM drives. The specs I'd compare are transfer rates and high memory usage on the CPU you plan to use. Adaptec just bought Trantor, so they are likely to have the best driver support.
