EVO-9650

I've recently aquired an EVO-9650 and having written code for the LVR decided
to spend some time and develope code for the EVO. This message is directed at
those who have an interst in a single frame recorder and want an inexpensive
interface. First, Sony is now offering a rebate of $500 on the EVO-9650
regardless of where you purchase it as long as it is from an authorized dealer.
I got mine from Computability at 1-800-558-0003 for $4250. Take $500 off that
with the rebate… Second I am offering my VID8 software to control your deck
for $89 which includes a correct RS-232C cable,a compatible serial card, and
the VID8 Recorder software. It is easy to use, you initialize the deck at the
frame you want to record. Then you run the VID8 Recorder program which asks you
the name of the image file you want to record, then it asks if you want to put
a 30 frame head and tail on the animation, which is nice if you're going to be
editing it to another tape, then it asks starting frame, ending frame and
increment value. Increment value allows you to record every frame or every
other frame, or whatever increment value you specify. When you register your
copy you will also recieve Targa Utilities which are nine Targa programs which
work with Truevision or Truevision compatible products. If you are using a
display card or frame buffer other than a Targa or Matrox let me know and I
will customize the program so that you can output your images with the board
you have, assuming of course it has NTSC output capability. If you just want
the software the cost is $59. So for approximately $3809, you can have it all.
P.S. I am working on VID8 Grabber which is due to release soon, it will be
available to VID8 registered owners for $25. It will allow you to do single
frame grabs off of your EVO for rotoscoping etc. Now think of the
possibilities! – John

Sounds good. I paid $1,000 for my software to control the 9650. Keep us
informed on your new "products".
James
James – Are there some features you'd like but don't currently have that would
help you be more productive? If so please let me know and I'll see what I can
do about incorporating them. The current version of VID8 is super efficient,
and I want to keep it that way but the EVO-9650 has some really neat features
which could be incorporated into the program, like once the deck has been
started you can set it up to eject the tape and shut itself off after its
finished recording, thereby allowing it to record while you're asleep or away.
I may include two versions, one with additional features and and one thats fast
and efficient. What type of tape are you using and are you happy with it? I
should have the VID8 Grabber program available by the end of next week, you may
be interested. Thanks – John
