>> By the way, when do you expect to release your Film IPAS? Siggraph. Actually, the program is done, it's just my favorite part, the documentation, that's left. <g>

If you can't communicate the software to the user, you ain't got the software. <g>

Jack: Interesting to see how different people view the end result! <g> I've had some calls to take the routines, docs or not! Greg

Hackers, Greg, they're all hackers. Stay away from them; they'll only get you into trouble. No decent, respectable computer user would even _think_ of operating their new software without first reading the documentation cover- to-cover. <g> – J

Jack – With as slow as most of the super-compresso installation routines are these days, you have PLENTY of time to read the manual while you're installing. BUT (and take heed, gentlemen) when you do do (oops, don't tell) something like try and use your install time constructively, you end up finding out that the machine has been waiting for you to change disks (I'm not going to make the joke) for 5 minutes because you've been caught up reading! PLEASE make those Install-routine people ADD A BEEP PROMPT at disk-change points!!!!! Dave (PS, call Microsoft and tell them to do the same thing to their Format and DiskCopy routines so I don't have to keep going in with DiskEditor and changing one of the prompt characters to BELL!)

Well, you're right, it's probably pretty easy to read through all of the 3ds Reference Manual during installation, but you can't really go through the tutorials until you've got the program installed. <g> As far as changing the installation program, that's Autodesk's baby. We couldn't even get them to add blinking cursors. (Though I think we might have blinking cursors for Release 3.) Would be nice though. Adding sound to the install program would make it a true multimedia product. – J

Guess I just need noisier floppy drives.<g> Dave

Jack, I've also noted that recent installation programs seem to defeat floppy disk caching. Installs used to go much faster. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Installation programs are designed to take advantage of any decrease in speed. – J

Wow, Jack. Now that's it documented, I feel MUCH better <g>! Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Why just a bell? You could play a wav file with a "Yost Chorus Line" singing the entire Tom Waits' "Small Changes" album while files are copying and decompressing, and when a song stops, then you KNOW that you have to change the disk to continue with instalation and another song. Even you can ask your dealer for a custom version with your favourite musicians (Ms.Carol Bartz could sign if someone ask for Madonna -but could be Madonna be called musician. We can call it Karaoke Installation Program or The Jambo-Mambo for 3dsr3. Ana ps.Seriously, installation needs a bell or Yost can include the whole program in CD in order to save time.

Ana, Yes! That's a great idea, being able to install 3DS from the CD, that is. If Corel can do it, why not 3DS? Bailey

I'd rather hear a song (like something off of Waits' Bone Machine) when things CRASH! At least you'd have something to listen to while you do the slow boil telling yourself "I KNEW I should have saved, I KNEW I should have saved, I KNEW I should…." Dave

Great idea! CD-ROM as anger therapy! Maybe someone will get the idea and publish a CD that will detect a system crash and automatically play a soothing voice listing 675 Mbytes of reasons why you *shouldn't* punch out your expensive monitor <g>.

Crashes!? Those are times to be optimistic…why not Idle's "Always look on the bright side"? (Martin Foster has it assigned to windows fatal errors <g> Just kidding, Martin. Ana

<<No decent. respectable computer user would even think of operating their new computer software without first reading the documentation cover-to-cover.>> Jack, you forgot to mention the other requirement in addition to reading all the documentation: everything must be MEMORIZED! Alec Jason

Jack: And besides, without people like us, the world would be left totally unprotected from people like Gary and Gus! <g> (The "G" Team!) Greg Pyros

Aren't you supposed to write the docs first, so you know what to program? 😉

John, specs != docs Bailey
