GPFax convert to Fax

Gracia (or anyone else who might be able to help),
I finally figured out what the deal was when I tried to convert to fax
by simply printing from whatever program I happen to be using (I didn't
have the 'Prt Driver' selected from GPFax's options). The problem now is
that when it goes to print I get a requester that says, "GPFax not
installed" with the only option being 'cancel'. What do you suppose that
is? I hope I'm overlooking something simple. I did all of the above with
Snoopdos on and this is what I got:

By the time you get this I'm sure you'll already have an answer. I don't
know what's happening, but if you have Gpfax running AND the printer
driver checked in options, Dpaint should should print to GPFax. BTW
what's Snoopdos & where do you get it?

Wrong! <g> I haven't really fiddled with it too much more, oh well.
My GPFax was running and I had the driver selected, but no go. I think
I'm going to try to install it again thinking that maybe some attribute or
another wasn't preserved from the de-compressing. I'll let you know how
it goes.
Snoopdos is a very handy little utility (for me). It opens a window
and follows a lot of ADos Read, Write, Open, etc. commands. So if you
have a program that's not doing what you think it should be doing and you
can't figure out why (perhaps it's looking for a file somewhere) you can
run this in the backround and it should show where the program is looking.
It seems like I'm always installing things in a rush and sometimes miss
things (I know, I know, "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right the
first time.", so sayeth Mom) and Snoopdos is a big help in getting back on
track. It's in AmigaUser under SNPDOS.LZH. Give it a go.

Seems you have the *mystery* problem I usualyl have <g>. Right now mine is
getting a full screen for applications on my Sony 1302 monitor with my
4000. It's always some dumb simple thing that nobody botheres to mention.
With Dpaint & GPFax read about the pixel numbers, it has something to do
with output…p42 (p40 for letterhead etc.)
Snoopdos sounds like fun, will get. Nothing like knowing the problem even
if you can't fix it <g.

How are you liking your new 4000?
Sunday our Users group showed the 4000 from a local CBM Dealer. The AGA
graphics was spectacular; the '040 was lightning; the cost for PowerUp now
is (?) $2695.00 but I have more than that invested in my 2000 now.
AIBB55.LHA (spelling?) is a great benchmark program for your 4000. It
show my A2000 running faster than a 25Hz A3000, but much slower than a
A4000.
BTW I'm waiting for the new ROM for my SupraFax modem. Have you got the
new ones?

I would love my 4000 if I could see all of my screen! So far I haven't
found the key. In AP I can't see the right side where the slider would be,
and no the sceen dosen't scroll, yes I have VGA driver and all the others
(just in case) in devs. Forget Dpaint, I can't get to the tools.
I have the new Supra roms, justhaven't put them in since moden works & I
don't want to jinx it <giggle>.
I also have to set up new HP4m printer…& I've never user a laser. More
fun & games.

Have you got the right monitor setup in Preferences? Be sure and select
NTSC in the Overscan subdirectory of Preferences. (It sounds like you're
in PAL mode).
I found out what why I was hveing problems with my GPFax, (updates didn't
work properly, and I couldn't find the "Silent Answer" mode). I called
Supra Friday. (BTW their direct line is 1-503-967-2493, for Amiga.) It
took twenty minute on hold, but I finally got through. The problem was
that I was sold the generic version of the GPFax, not the supra version.
What version of GPFax do you own?

I assume I have the Supra Version since it seems to works with Surpra
upgrades from lib here. We'll see when I get the new roms in and try
silent answer <G>.
My King of Prussia teckie friend explaned…DblNTSC doesn't scan the width
of monitor. So it's either clear non flicker sceen hi res no flicker
that's a little narrow or full screen muliscan productivity that does
flicker. I fixed the over scan and got the whole window, slidder & all. I
am having trouble with some programs not being happy with Dos 3.0.

If you got the GPFax "patch library" that has three versions in it, you
will know WHICH version of GPFax you have since the "Supra version patch"
will not work with the Generic version software. If you find that you do
have the Generic version, you can send GPFax a few $$ and "upgrade" to the
"Supra (specific) version".

Check your User-Startup (or Startup-Sequence under 1.3) and make sure
GPFAX: is assigned. It should indicate the directory that GPFax is
installed in. Also, check your setup/pathnames and make sure they're what
you want. If these don't work, I'm not sure what the problem is.

I checked everything again just to be sure and it all looks good to me.
I think I'm going to try the reinstall thing. Thanks for your help.
