#G-FORCE big problems
11 messages in this thread
I had just buyed a GVP G-FORCE for my A 3000T. But I have found two problems:
1) The kick > 2.04 can't be loaded (I am a certified developer, ndr) 2)
Sometimes (too much!!) appear a 0004 or 000B guru (red/black alert). Is it
normal ??? Can it be a solution for my problems ??? I have tried: Set040
SoftBoot Skick and now I don't know what to do. Thanx Massimo Brogioni

I have heard that some turbo boards (usually '040s) want the hardware ROMs
for 2.04 and will not function properly with the kicked code. Maybe
that's your problem- it might be worth a try to find out.

I hope no…. I know that Progressive Peripherals can go with soft kickstart…
I think that if a board can go with a FASTROM (kickstart ROM loaded on RAM) can
go with soft kick too…. or not ???? :-)) Ciao MB-)
No- many boards look specifically for the hard coded instructions in the
ROMs. I still think that could be your problem. But good luck anyway

If you have the G-Force040-A3000, you WILL need to get KickStart in ROM.
The G-Force board I got CAME with KickStart ROMs, though I don't think
that was standard for all boards shipped.
You can always order them from the dealer who sold you the accelearator.
Good Luck,

P.S. I had lots of Guru's until I removed some older software that just
wasn't compatible with the 040. You might want to check for old programs
that might be flakey….

Erik:
Do you have the programs to patch the arp.library? It seems that there are
several routines in it that would crash an 040. It also bumps the
arp.library revision number up to 40.0 rather than the 39.1 that it
normally is. There are also a few other small hacks to fix compatibility
with an 040. Even with these fixes, there are still some programs that
don't seem to fly on an 040, but most that initially didn't work are fixed
with the 'arp040fix' program. It should be in the libs here, if you have
any trouble finding it, let me know, I'll send you a copy via email.

I had the 2.04 kckstart ROM, but I need a softloaded kick too…. I had a
Hardware GURU (8000 0004 / 0005 / 0003 / 000B) and now I know why… If I lauch
some fastmem tester (MD, GVPMemTest) everything go well until the G-FORCE ram
is reached. After touched this RAM all goes to GURU.
P.S. I have an Amiga4000 too, and I run in both machine same software.
Why do you _need_ to softload the KickStart? (I'm not a programmer, so
humor me. :^)
I don't know why a memory tester would cause your machine to Guru.
Sounds weird. All I can do is wish you 'Good Luck!'
Erik Flom
A memory tester Guru my machine when the memory is broken :-)) I need to
softload kick because…. you will see when the new releases of OS will come
out. Ciao Mb-)
