#AAPLAY.DLL video problem
2 messages in this thread
I've written a program that uses AAPLAY.DLL and AAVGA.DLL to play animations in
full-screen mode. It works great on most of the VGA cards I've tested, however
some with some cards (noteably AST with VGA on the mother board) The screen
becomes garbled when I start an animation, or switch to a new animation, or
sometimes in the middle of an animation.
These problems disappear when I use Int2fSwitch=yes in the [AAPLAY Animation]
section of win.ini. However, when this switch is enabled, the Player fails to
restore the video mode under which Windows was running, when the animation is
terminated. The screen is garbled. Interestingly enough, this appears to hold
true for all video cards that I've tried, not just the ASTs.
Any advice you might have is greatly appreciated.

The Int2FSwitch will fix this problem in some cases and won't in others.
Sounds like it almost but not quite fixes it in your case. The only other
alternative I can offer you is to use DISPDIB.DLL, if it is available to you
and your customers. DISPDIB.DLL ships with Video for Windows from Microsoft
and it was also included with the MM Extensions for Windows 3.0. AAVGA.DLL can
be made to call DISPDIB to acquire full screen mode rather than trying to just
steal full-screen; you accomplish this by adding this setting to your win.ini
in the [AAPLAY Animation] section:
HardwareDirect = off
AAVGA.DLL simply will not work with 100% of the VGA cards out there, 'cause not
all the cards are compatible with one another. It will work with 95% plus and
that's the best we can do with out being Microsoft and having access to all of
Windows' internals. Therefore: DISPDIB from Microsoft.
