Gordon, you're getting a bit over my head, but here's some of what I know, some of what I believe, and some of what I don't know, FWIW: (1) Is the 3401 a multi-speed? and once more, I'd like to verify the 3401 against our criteria: USAGE: "heavy database research" SPECS: Good access time, 200 – 300 MS >> Yes… 200 ms. (3) We are going to use an Adaptec SCSI contoller and one of two SCSI-2 disk drives: Micropolis 1624 SCSI-2, 668MB, or Toshiba MK538FB, SCSI-2, 1.2 GB. (3A) Will the 3401 plug into the Adaptec board without glich? We don't want to buy two SCSI controllers. >>I think so… there has been considerable Adaptec/Toshiba traffic in this forum. You might scroll back and see what you find. (3B) What kind of internal cabeling is required to chain the 3401 to the Hard drive? >> It uses a standard SCSI ribbon cable. Easy to come by. You can also fairly readily find (via your vendor or other mail order source) the special sound cable you'll need to connect it to a sound card. Hope this helps. Sorry I'm no expert. Nill
