#CD-ROM(XA) vs CD-I

I would like to invite comments on the new battle between CD-ROM(XA) and CD-I
or perhaps any other standard that looks to come out on top.
I am currently looking at the two standards for creating sales presentations.
I know the typical company line that "It depends what your application is" but
I don't buy that crap. I think that there is going to be a clear cut winner one
day and I would rather spend my bucks on the winning side.
All input is appreciated.
Note: I beleive that CD-ROM(XA) is the way to go and my boss beleives that
CD-I will be the new champion.

Well, this message pretty much answers the question in the other thread you
started. Tell your boss that if there ever was going to be a "battle" he is
about a year late getting into it; it's been over for a while and his team has
lost. If efficiency has any priority in your organization, then you should
select a format that is more open and amenable to re-use for many purposes.
That would be XA, or – depending on the application – any of the
non-proprietary formats for CDROM.

Hi Chris, you have asked a question that has been hashed over many times in the
last few months. It's true that CD-I has taken a beating, but I must
respectfully disagree with Rich and tell you that it's not dead yet. CD-ROM XA
has also not lived up to expectations (yet). My question to you is, why are you
considering only these two formats? Is there some reason that your data cannot
be distributed on Yellow Book CD-ROM? If you want a standard that has a proven
track record, large installed base, versatility, and forward compatibility,
this would be the obvious choice. Recent hardware and software developments
have narrowed the gap between XA and regular CD-ROM capabilities.
