Hi Matt, as is said elsewhere in this thread – we can't afford to keep buying bigger hard disks to play games… anyway don't CDROMs cost less to produce than 5 HD floppies? Its about time some decent games were on CDROM! can u pass our feedback on to your friend ? thanks dw

I definitely agree that the size of games is rapidly outstripping the average user's hard disk capacity. Believe me, I've strongly requested that my friend push for CD-ROM. It's not always cheaper to put software on CD-ROM. For a large production run, the cost is around $2000 plus $1-$2 per disc. You need to either sell a lot of CDs or be replacing a lot of floppies for that to make sense. Also, there are still very few CD-ROM drive owners, compared to the number of PC owners. If a company only distributes on CD-ROM, they cut themselves out of a large potential market. If they distribute CD-ROM and floppy versions, the publisher and the delaer have to juggle how many of each to produce and keep track of two different products. If you put both in the same box, you're adding extra cost to every box to satisfy a small minority. All that being said, I still think a CD-ROM version makes sense. I think the number of XWING customers with CD-ROM drives is high enough to justify the overhead. And the idea of zero hard disk space is very appealing.
