#Toshiba 3401 drivers

Has anyone hooked up a Toshiba 3401 CD-Rom to an Ultrastor 24F EISA SCSI controller. I want to purchase this drive, but I cannot seem to find out anything about drivers for it? Do they exist? If they don't, does anyone have any recommendations for another cd-rom that can be attatched to my Ultrastor. I already have a second SCSI controller in the machine to control a Microtek ScanMaker II. I really don't want a THIRD SCSI controller in the machine if it can be helped. Thanks a lot for any help!

I've wondered since I have two MicroTek scanners (slide and flatbed) and have wondered what kind of device and board that was. As you know, their documentation says virtually nothing about the controller card beyond how to get it working. Any technical information would be appreciated. Steve Shaffer, MicroDataware

Steve, i also have two elder MicroTek 300 Scanners, and – according to the docs – it are special V.24 serial cards. If it is of interest for you, i can search the doc and send you a copy of the specs and cables. ( It's a 300 Z and a 300 G ) Gerhard

Gerhard, my scanners are a 600Z and an 1850. Both have the "MS/PCY" controler card – whatever that is (the cards are identical). If you can figure out if mine is the same as anything you have, I would appreciate any technical info. If you're not sure, don't bother as I'll call Microtec and try to sort it out with them. I certainly hope somebody comes up with a response to this question. I, too, have the Scanmaker II hooked up, and now have installed a 2nd scsi card for CDROM. Was wondering if I could somehow chain (isn't that what SCSI is supposed to be all about?) the scanner and CDROM and save a slot. Anyone know about this?

Yes, it is a SCSI board, I have no details except what Microtek support told me. It has SCSI connectors, and they say it is very similar to the SCSI board supplied with the HP Scanjet. If I find anything in the manual, I'll let you know. David Stuchiner

David— I have an IBM 1G disk, WangDAT 3200 and a Toshiba 3401 all hooked up to my Ultrastor 24F. As for software drivers, you need the UltraOPT kit. It includes ULTRACD.SYS, which is all you need(along with MSCDEX, now included in MS-DOS 6.0). ULTRACD.SYS is a generic driver which works well with the 3401, except it limits you to single session disks at this time.

You should be able to get the drivers package, which also includes a tape backup program and an audio CD player program, from the same place you got the 24F. Good luck, -=Rob=-
