Does anyone have an Idek 5017 monitor connected to an AGA Amiga? If so,
does it work well? Does it auto-center/auto-size the various modes
correctly? Does it have enough sizing range to avoid black borders in the
DblNTSC resolutions?
Also, does anyone know if there are other 17" muliscan monitors that can
scan down to 15KHz?

I have a stock A1200 with an Idek 5017 SP monitor. IMHO, the image
quality is excellent. However, you should know that I am not a video
professional and some fine points may be escaping me. Also, I am more
used to the PC monitors I use at work, but I prefer the Idek to any of
them (Mitsubishi 15FS, NEC, and Nanao). Have just tried switching thru
the various modes and I believe that the auto-centering is less than
perfect. Also, some modes change the size of the Workbench screen so it
occupies the upper or left half of the screen only. With my admittedly
limited knowledge of Amiga video modes, this may be normal. Finally,
there is a small black border in DblNTSC resolution (~?").

There is a list of monitors capable of 15KHz which I downloaded from one
of the Amiga forums here called MONINF.LHA. It includes over 20 monitors.
If you want I can CMail it to you. Also, if you'd like, I would be
willing to run any tests you can devise on my monitor to give you further
information.

Thanks so much for your detailed response. I'll look for the "MONINF.LHA"
file you mentioned. If I can't find it, I'll have you send it to me via
CMail.
BTW… Do you happen to know if you're using the standard 3.0 monitor
drivers or the revised ones that Commodore later distributed as the 3.0
Monitor Update and 1942 Setup Disk? I've found these to work somewhat
better with non-Amiga monitors than the originals provided with Workbench
3.0. The new Overscan Prefs program is especially helpful. Anyway, if
they're not available here, I can upload them for you.

I am not sure about the monitor drivers, but version reports DblNTSC as
39.29 and all drivers are at least 39.10. I just received the A1200 in
the middle of April (about 2 weeks before C= liquidated :)). I do have
the Overscan program in the Prefs drawer and was using it when I checked
the borders of the DblNTSC mode.

I think the newer monitor drivers are version 40.xx or so. Anyway, does
your Overscan program have four arrow buttons on the lower-left corner of
the sizing screen that allow you to set the screen's position? If so, you
have the monitor update files. Otherwise, you're using the originals.
The monitor update consists of new SetPatch, IPrefs, and Overscan programs
as well as new versions of the monitor drivers. Let me know if you need
them.

Looks like I have the old versions of the drivers and Prefs. Can I d/l
them here? I do have the new SetPatch (SETP40.LHA) – just haven't got
around to unarcing it yet.
