I think the IDE 512MB (520MB?) limit is mostly for IBM type PCs. There
was an artical in Byte a few months ago about IDE drive limits. Seems
like IDE itself is good to 8GB or so but that PCs couldn't address all the
heads, sectors and cylinders due to limits in the field sizes of there
BIOS tables.
