I am having trouble with the color preferences on my A2386 BB, on an A4000. As is so often the case, my dealer was clueless but sympathetic. He called Commodore Tech Support, and they were clueless and unsympathetic. When I open a custom PC screen, PCColor reads the color settings from SIDECARSETTINGS.TABLE incorrectly. For example, let's say I have an 8 color screen and have set the colors as follows: 000 00F 0F0 0FF F00 FF0 F0F FFF If I save these settings, they get written to the file correctly. However, next time I reset the colors (either by selecting 'Restore Settings' from the PCColor screen menu, or by closing the window and reopening it, or if a PC application causes the PCColor screen to panic and go back to read the saved settings), the colors will come up as follows: 000 00F 0FF 0FF FF0 FFF FFF FFF If I repeat this procedure, by saving these settings and then resetting the colors again, the colors will come up: 000 00F 0FF 0FF FFF FFF FFF FFF You can see the pattern here. If works in 4, 8 or 16 color mode, and the pattern will be consistent. It doesn't matter location the color issaved in, i.e. whether it is the 1st, 2nd, 9th, or 13th color. The pattern goes like this: Saved color PCColor reads 000 000 00F 00F 0F0 0FF 0FF 0FF F00 FF0 FF0 FFF FFF FFF also, 700 770 etc. So, is there something wrong with my setup? If not, then how do I get C='s attention? – E Cottle

Rumor has it that there is a bug in the 2.1 Janus software relating to opening color screens. I don't recall if the problem you describe is part of that bug, but it's possible. If so, then all one can hope for is that eventually it might be cured in a future release.

I have not seen such a problem, hmm… interesting bug… What is the version of PCWindow that you are running. To get that open a shell and type version sys:pc/pcwindow at the prompt. Greg Greg Givler – CBMSER Sysop Commodore Product Assurance

That is the latest version, I will try and reproduce your problem and report the bug. Never saw this one during testing. Greg Greg Givler – CBMSER Sysop Commodore Product Assurance

Thank you *VERY* much. You could restore my faith in Commodore. I had a problem with the graphics when I first bought my A2088 several years ago. I fought with customer support until my 90 day warranty ran out. Sometime later I finally found an Amiga authorized service center which took my project on out of the goodness of their hearts. In the end, about a year after I bought the BB, this service center gave me a more recent version of JANUS. It fixed the problem. I always thought it curious that C= never would acknowledge the bug, or make any effort to try to help me, but they did manage to get it fixed in the next release. It left me a bit disillusioned with Commodore. Your response makes me feel much better. It is just one of several evidences I have seen that Commodore is taking customer support more seriously. If there is anything I can do to help you reproduce the problem, such as more detailed information on my system setup, please let me know. Also, I spent considerable time myself trying to figure out exactly what the problem was. If you would like to know any more details, I would be happy to give them to you. Thanks again.
