BEWARE – tape drives from 3rd party refurb' houses may or may not be comparable
in quality to MegageM's offering. MegageM offers a full 6 months warranty (and
these drives are so good only 1 came back in 2 years – dozens sold). MegageM
also offers real Amiga-knowledgeable tech support and advice on use with Amiga
software and hardware configurations. MegageM is selling the WangDAT 6200 HS
only, at this time. $649 is the lowest price we've ever been able to offer and
with two years of experience with this model I can definitely say it's a
reliable WORKHORSE of a DAT. Even some of the 'big boys' have purchased their
WangDAT's from MegageM. Sometimes price alone isn't the only thing that is
important – reliability, warranty, and support may also be important to the
Amiga owner in need of high-tech data storage. Wish I could always compete
with the biggest mail-order guys, but I won't even pretend that's always
possible. For those who want a great DAT and great support, give MegageM a try.
MegageM's experience with 3rd party refurb's is that they are chancy. If you
get factory refurb – that's another story, almost always excellent quality.
Are the dats the same as an Exabyte?
Exabyte is an 8mm 'video tape' format – I can get 'em but I have had very very
few calls for 'em. They are available in 2Gig and 5 Gig capacities. Some
video pros use 'em a lot for backup and data exchange. DAT is a 4mm 'digital
audio tape' format – I have sold lots of these over the last 2 years of the
same type I have now on special for June. The model on offer I know from two
years experience to be a proven Amiga-compatible workhorse with excellent

you. PS the 2Gig Exabyte costs more than a 2Gig DAT and the 5Gig Exabyte is
quite expensive. I've had excellent results with 2Gig DAT for backup and data
exchange with other DAT owners. I use Ami-Back and get about 10
Megabytes/minute backups at very low cost. The model on special offer for June
is the same as I use on my own systems.
