B&P Upgrade Price?!
7 messages in this thread
To Blue Ribbon Soundworks: I just received your notice to upgrade to B&P
PRO. I see that you say you have added many of the tools from your Add-On
series. I have all the Add-On series modules which I have purchased within
the last year:
Music Box A Music Box B Creativity Kit Internal Sounds Kit Multi-Media Kit
(The 'Media Madness Tool' sounds like the 'Cue Card') Pro Studio Kit Rules
For Tools
All these kits cost me $260.00 + the price of B&P 1.0c $230.00 and the 1.0e
upgrade which I paid $15 only 2 months after buying version 1.0c — and all
this within the last year. I have spent $500.00 within the last year for
Bars And Pipes products. What does this version 2.0 upgrade offer that
justifies the hefty $99.00 upgrade fee. There is not a single software
company which has recently offered upgrades that is charging so much for so
little. What justifies this upgrade charge in the light that I own all the
above Add-On kits? Can I get some sort of price compromise that reflects
your support for Add-On kits I just purchased. Please reply directly (i.e.
long term memory rather than short term greed).

I'm sorry, but I disagree with you. 😎
First, very little existing music software for the Amiga is even
supported, let alone updated. Second, B&P Pro 2.0 is a major upgrade that
has been in development for over one year, and the upgrade shows it. It
has a tremendous amount of new features, besides simply incorporating some
prior tools directly into the program. Besides, how can you say that Blue
Ribbon is giving you "so little", when you haven't seen the program yet?
😎 Also, INOVAtronics just upgraded Dir Opus and is charging $45.00 for
the upgrade and that's basically just a directory utility. Yet, I paid the
upgrade fee and I feel it was worth the money.
I think that you'll find that Bars&Pipes Pro 2.0 is also worth the
upgrade fee. I expect that Melissa will also answer you. I just thought
I'd give my opinion, for what it's worth.
Thanks.

Dear Patrick,
Thank you for allowing me to repsond to your concerns.
As I said to John Pendergrass, the enhanced and updated Add-on Series Tools
are only a small part of what makes Bars&Pipes Professional 2.0. I realize
that you may own earlier and less-capable versions of these Tools, but
you've had the benefit of them long before others have.
Bars&Pipes Professional 2.0 includes many significant enhancements,
including a completely rewritten and improved manual, better notation,
Groove Quantize, Tem0o Tap, Rubato tempo mapping and of course, Media
Madness, capable of being an entire program in and of itself.
The Blue Ribbon SoundWorks has always made its best efforts to give you
innovative, top-quality tools. We'd like to keep doing so and rely on your
support. When we priced this upgrade, we first consulted with a team of
beta testers who had the opportunity to see Bars&Pipes Professional first
hand. The unequivocally felt that $99 was a fair valuation. I think you
will, too.
Please also keep in mind that Blue Ribbon continues to support the Amiga
market, long after other music software companies have abandoned it.
That's worth something right there…

Melissa,
Patrick,
I think the $99 upgrade price falls within reasonable limits. Over
the past year I've purchased three add-on kits because I _needed_ the added
features for commercial MIDI production. Bars_Pipes Pro has become the
heart of my MIDI studio, (I never thought I'd say that <g>) and quite
frankly $99 seems a small price to pay for a major upgrade. Thanks to
B&P_Pro's wonderful SMPTE support my small studio is starting to turn a
profit and I don't have to bust my buns gigging as much. That's definitely
worth many times the upgrade price.

Again, thanks…

Melissa,
I'm finding Bars&Pipes_Pro to be a very good all around production tool.
I think it's a good idea to include as many tools and accessories as
possible with the 2.0 release, several tools, (velocity & duration come to
mind) are necessary for serious editing. After all, you do want to put your
best foot forward. 🙂 Also, your product support is second to none.
