Pent-90 Lockup on render
5 messages in this thread
Parris, I've got 32MB Ram, and the mga 2meg pci card. The problem appears to be
too random to give you something to duplicate but it as it appears to happen
when the mem used dialogue box is at about 10MB (out of 31…), I am making the
assumption that it is a memory confict of some sort. This is the only
semi-consistent (?) parameter. …. The meshes are of different shapes and
sizes, logos 3k faces to architechture 80k faces. The incredibly annoying thing
is that it does it at random, sometimes to larger files sometimes to smaller
and at random frames during the rendering. (I have noticed also that I
sometimes have to have the printer on for it to recognise the sentinel, but not
always! (I appreciate that this is not related, just equally annoying)). It
hasn't done it for a couple of days now so I live in hope.
Thank you for your comments and please let me know if you have any other quirks
with your machine.

Will do. My system also has had occasional problems recognizing sentinel pro
with the printer turned off. It is just strange that it is not consistant.

Parris,

Download HWLOCK.txt from the 3D Studio section of the libs for some clues.

Parris, I am having this lockup problem on a regular basis and am getting very
frustrated by it. You, with the Targa+ and the frame controller, must
presumably being going out frame by frame to video, and this has certain
differences to creating flic files. I do, however, have a file which appears to
be jamming up on me pretty much on the same frame time after time (finally, a
little consistency in my jam). I could zip the mesh and send it to you but I
fear that our setups are sufficiently different that it will not be a fair
comparison (I also run stacker v3 (not double space) with DOS 6.21 on the 1/2
GIG drive provided by Gateway). … Better still, if it suits, let me know your
telephone number and I will call you direct on the subject. By the way I'm also
interested to know if you change your config.sys to run windows and what you
have in it to run 3ds at its best. I found that with "smartdrive" active in
Autoexec.bat, the transforming objects dialogue box took would take an
inordinate quantity of time to cross the screen (I'm talking minutes). This
does not happen on 486s … I removed it on the Pent and (other than the
current prob) it seemed to work fine.
Many thanks,
Richard
I will forward you my number via E-Mail. As to config.sys setup, I've set up a
startup menu in DOS 6.2 where I can choose diferent configurations such as 3DS,
Windows, …etc. I don't run Smartdrv when using 3DS.
