#Low-Cost 3-D Digitizers?

<< My definition of "low cost" means around $2,000. (There are a few
of us out here without government contracts, rich relatives, or
lottery jackpots!) >>
I'm with you, bub! <S> What makes me cringe is when I see $_K, where
it's so matter of fact that it'll be in the thousands, that they
don't even bother with the hundreds. Makes my wallet cringe.
That said, I do understand that the ESTABLISHED pros are capable of
spending more money on the hardware than I am as a starting pro. This
doesn't bother me so much as the thought that the industry might not
care enough about the beginners to market entry level equipment at
entry level cost. Pleeeeease tell me that there is entry level
equipment. For instance, I cannot find prices on a TARGA board (or
it's equivalent), except for the TARGA 2000, which apparently lists
for around "$6K" (gak!!!). Any info would be appreciated very much.
I certainly do sympathize with your desire for low cost entry level
equipment but, gosh, Tony, It's just me here. I'm not the God of
Hardware, a distributor, or even a dealer. I'm an end user like you
who wishes, hopes, and whines for all the great things we would like
to have.
I'm not sure what kind of Targa board you're looking for but there are
much cheaper ones than the model 2000. There are also many used Targa
boards popping up in this forum. Just post a message telling people
what you want and you'll probably find several offers.
Alec, Yeah, I know you're "just an end user" like me, but you also
seem to be very knowledgeable about things that I am just hitting, so
I hope you don't mind if I ask some questions of you and others
here. It's been a while since I've started into a completely
different specialization in the computer world, so it's fun….while
at the same time confusing as h*ell.
Seriously, though…thanks for the reply. I'll keep an eye out for
used Targas.
Call 1-800-344-TRUE for dealers near you I am sure they will help you out with
pricing.<G>
