I recently downloaded a couple of files from the library and afterthe time it
took to download and unpack them I found out that they both required Version
2.0 to run. There was nothing in the description which warned me of this. Am I
the only one out here who does not have v2. All of the software I have had so
far has been just fine with v1.3. What should I do? … if anything.

We try to include the necessity for 2.0x or higher in the descriptions of
files, but sometimes it gets past us, especially when someone else has
written the descriptions and we are just checking the files before making
them public.
You will find that more and more of the software – commercial and freely
distributable (especially the latter) require the newer OS. There are
many, many things built into 2.0x and higher that are just not available
without tons of programming in the older systems. It is WELL worth the
cost of upgrading – if you can still locate an upgrade kit. They are
getting a bit scarce now. You will find your machine to be seriously
handicapped without this new system, and this will be more true all the
time.

Most people do indicate in the description if an upload is limited to a
particular OS, but not everyone does. Since we as sysops check the
programs on our machines and we are all using either 2.x or 3.x (the
current OS revisions) we're kind of left at the mercy of the uploader to
indicate that something won't work under 1.3.
What should you do? Upagrade to a current version of the OS. If you owned
a PC would you still be running MSDOS 2.x?

The desire and ability to upgrade to a current version of the OS are two
different things. For the 500/2000/2500, the KS 2.04 and 2.05 ROMS might
still be available if you look hard enough, but it is getting rather
difficult to get the full enhancer kits. I'm having a bit of difficulty
trying to find a place I can purchase the 2.1 software and manuals (and I
figure I could make do without the documentation if I had to).

Last week when I was at my dealer, I saw a stack of 25 v2.1WB sets. I
think these had both the ROMs, and manuals as well. Their name is "The

I have just tried pushing Commodore Canada fairly hard for a 2.1 upgrade to
an Amiga 2000, and have gotten no joy. They just don't know when the package
will become available; they, too, hope it will happen soon.
