Using Autocad images
5 messages in this thread
My brother is doing work with Autocad and moves the images into 3D-Studio but
is experiencing some problems while the images aren't imported perfectly, If I
understand it correctly the colours or textures are only partially imported. Is
there a upgraded filter or something that would correct this problem ?
In 3D Studio, you can load and convert a DXF file and assign simple materials
matching the colors assigned the geometry in AutoCAD. You can then use 3ds to
edit the materials for more sophisticated effects. The process is described on
page 3-37 of the Reference Manual.

Tomas,
AutoCAD, by itself, does not have any colors or textures to import into 3D
Studio. Unless you are using some type of add on package, the only thing that
gets brought over to 3DS is the 3D Geometry.
So, either you are not explaining his problem right, or, he is using some add
on program which you forgot to mention. Either way, we will need more
information.

Hi Tomas,
Have you or your brother looked into Autodesk's AutoVision. You can
check it out at your local Autodesk Multimedia dealer.
Good Luck, Randy
It sounds like you might be having problems with your surface normals as
created in AutoCAD. Try mapping a 2 sided material onto the problem objects and
see if that cures it. If so, either use 2-sided materials or fix the normals
which are flipped….
