Help… please… Every time I bring into either Photostyler or Photoshop a TIF file generated with 3DStudio Release 3, it seems to have only one pixel per inch resolution and it is 1024 inches long by 700 or so inches wide. What am I doing Wrong? Daniel

Jonas — Since you are an Atltamira user, maybe you can answer this question. I have brought some Targa files in Altamira that were rendered in 3DS. On some object, the color is all washed out in ALtamira, although it looks clear and crips in 3DS. I have the same gamma control setting in both products for my monitory (1.80) – could you give me some idea what could be the problem here? Judy

Bartlett have all contributed to Altamira questions in the past and maybe they can jump in? Have you asked Altamira tech support this question yet? jonas[adesk]

I would assume that they are 24 bit – I render with TGA depth of 24 and Alpha on. I suppose I could call Altamira, but I have been un-impressed by their technical support which is substandard compared to their competitors. They never seem to want to accept the fact that there may be a "bug" in their product 🙁 Judy

Everything brought in to Composer is 32-bit (24 bits of color, and 8 bits of alpha). Even if your original image is 24-bit, Composer adds 8 bits of opaque alpha data. I'm sorry to hear that the technical support is lacking at Altamira. I'm not really on this forum to support Altamira Composer, so I can't jump in every time there's a question. In the case of the washed out images, I don't have that problem, but I'd suggest you simply lower Composer's display gamma setting until the images seem right, and then leave it at that. – Jack

Daniel, No problem, really – Photoshop is just reflecting the size of the image as pixels (I presume you're rendering to 1024×768 or some such). In Photoshop, under Image size, you can reset this (click the boxes to maintain filesize & proportion). Set your image width (or height) & the other values will change as appropriate. If you want a particular DPI, then set that, & Photoshop will tell you what the print size will be. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

When 3DS creates a TIFF file it does not set the dpi for the file. Since DPI is a print issue and 3DS does not deal with it. DPI is device dependant. You can set the DPI from with Photoshop or Photostyler and resave the file. From there desktop publishing programs will work correctly.

Hmm… I've heard people tell me to use TIFF's when I'm going to print, but for bouncing between Photoshop and 3DS I've -ALWAYS- used Targa… try that… PhotoShop will let you save it as a TIFF then if you want to. I think I've seen that bug before though, FWIW.
