Somebody, HELP! I am trying to render an image in 3dstudio to a file at a high resolution to later be made to a slide. It renders fine at 1024x768x256. At 1024×1024 x256, 2048x2048x256, and 3072x3072x256 I get an error – "write error on last image file" or something like that, but saves the file anyway. However at 4096x4096x256 I get the same error, but it will not save the file. I am trying to save to compressed GIF running a 486dx2/50 computer with a 340 MB SCSI drive (90 Mb free). I tried disabling smartdrv.exe but the same error occurred (just took 3 times longer!). Jon Arendt

Jon, you're problem is due to a lack of enough hard disk space to store the file(s) you're trying to save. It sounds like you're trying to save t file with the SAVE-LAST-IMAGE parameter on. That means that it's saving a last-image file that's (4096x4096x24-bits, or) approximately 48 Megabytes large. Whoa! A 4Kx4K gif file can be up to 16Mb all by itself, depending upon the image contents and how much compression you're getting in it. Plus, you've got to take into account how much hard disk memory Phar Lap might be using to create a swap file. Does your status dialog show that you're swapping? – G
