Does anyone know if there is a 3.1 upgrade for the A2000 and a different
version of 3.1 for the A4000 ?

I assume you are refering to the "Toaster" 3.1 upgrade package. If so, the
answer to your question is YES. There are different disks required for the
Toaster 4000 version as opposed to the previous version of the board.

Thanks for the quick reply Frank, I think I need to clarify my question ! Does
Newtek have (2) versions of the Toaster 3.1 upgrade ?? I have installed and run
the 3.1 version with an Amiga 4000 and Toaster 4000 without problem. However,
when using the Toaster 4000 in an Amiga 2000 or 3000 the 3.1 upgrade does not
work. Both the 2000 and 3000 are currently outfitted and working perfectly well
with the 3.0 version of software.
So, my reasoning has been that Newtek has (2) versions, one for AGA machines
and one for earlier Amiga machines.
Does anyone have a question or comment regarding the 3.1 version on 2000 and
3000 Amiga machines ??

YES there are two different versions of the 3.1 software.
The different software versions are related to the Toaster cards NOT the
machines on which they reside. Where it is true that the installer script for
the 4000 Toasterboard differs depending on which machine it is used, all the
needed components are on the upgrade disks to install on either platform. The
important thing to remember is that you must have installed the appropriate
version of the software for the card installed prior to using the 3.1 upgrade
disks to update the installed software. If you are attempting to swap boards it
just won't work without re-installing the original disks.

On a related question,
When I re-installed my Toaster4000 on the A2000 it placed a 3000 update program
in the WBstartup drawer. Did the software think I have a 3000 and maybe the
installation is bad ?

As long as the software is working properly, it shouldn't matter whether the
installation program placed a different icon in the startup drawer. The likely
culprit might be an enhanced chip set look ahead called for by the installer
script. Do you have an ECS upgrade in your 2000?

Before i leave on my long vacation, can i jump in on this question of interest
to me. Several months ago i purchased the enhanced aga chip for my a2000 amiga
with a 4000 toaster card and 3.1 software, thinking it would help. when i
replaced the chip, i could not get the monitors to work, just scrambled. If i
remember correctly, the toaster would not boot. so i gave up on the idea and
reinstalled the old chip. all seems to be working fine. If the enhanced chip do
help in some way, i would still like to have it installed. What is the deal,
process, with setting the "installer script"? Would an enhanced chip help in
any way? I'm not working with animations, only toaster and montage c.g. I am
syncing the toaster via mx-50, not tbc's.

ECS is the generation before AGA (aka AA). The 2000 supports up to ECS,
but not AGA. As I understand it, the pin-outs are different, some
motherboard timing is different and, without a motherboard redesign (or a
clever 3rd party daughter board) the 2000, and possibly even the 3000 will
never be able to run AGA.

I called NewTek about the Patch3000 on my 2000 just after I did the
install. They weren't real informative on why it was there, but they
said, " definitely leave it where it is!"
I have and have no problems so even if it doesn't do any good, it doesn't
do any harm, either.
